1. Windsor Castle
This is a beautiful place to visit its just outside of London and can be easily reached by public transport, Windsor Castle is full of History from the Conqueror Tower built by William the Conqueror to Henry VIII buried in St George's Chapel.
2. Warwick Castle
This is a nice place to visit, it is around two to three hours outside of London in a car and it is perfect for children, especially during the school holidays and half term as they always have something on, the History in this place is so rich you can literally feel it as you are walking the halls, it gives me the same feeling that Hampton Court does.
3. Runneymede
Runneymede is right near Windsor and it boasts being the place were modern democracy was born, the birth place of the Magna Carta is again just a short train ride outside of London and if you can, then i highly suggest also walking up to the Commonwealth War Memorial as when you walk all the way to the top you get stunning views of Windsor and the surrounding area's. The memorials are very poignant especially the War Memorial, it was the most grounding and heart-breaking thing the read some of the stories that are laying down near the names of the fallen soldiers.
4. Cardiff Castle
(Not English, but exception made since reason is an English King)
Again this is my love for the Tudors coming out, there is an absolute stunning stained glass window in Cardiff Castle depicting Jasper Tudor, his wife Catherine Woodville, Henry VII and his wife Elizabeth of York, it is truly breath-taking.
5. Winchester
I have been to Winchester once, and it was for the BBC History Weekend in 2017 and i spent all day on the Saturday sat in the Great Hall and every time i looked around i saw something new, be it the magnificent painting on the wall, or the stained glass windows, Winchester is truly a historical place that needs to be visited, with the cathedral, and the museums around the city it is not to be missed.
